Its quite mild here in Norfolk (tee shirt and shorts weather)whilst we are waiting the snow which is forecast for tomorrow,it will not be a lot just a dusting.

It’ll still be enough to cause havoc on the roads!

Fired one, Evening Star. It was its first run of the season out of the NRM, immaculate.

The 90 is the only loco I was trained on but never drove in anger other than during the training. A handful of us were to be trained on the 91 when they first came out, they were to be stabled in Millerhill yard and we would ferry them to the Waverley for the training. However argument blew up about who would pay for the training then the "wrong kind of snow" debacle happened, fine snow being drawn into the cooling air ducts. They were grounded and the training never happened..

Both Classes 90 and 91 were built just up the road from us at Crewe works.

We're about 500yds from the WCML at Madeley Cutting and almost a mile west of the M6 across the fields.

Back in the late '80's I served in the working parties on the latter stages of the restoration of GWR 6024 King Edward 1 (aka 'Spud 1') at Quainton Road. That was from a rolling chassis through boiler refit in the frames up to running in at Quainton and renaming by the Duke of Gloucester. After that she was moved to Tyseley which was too far away from where we lived at the time.

Funnily enough the King is now coming to the final stages of her third overhaul since restoration. Her boiler was refitted to the frames during last autumn in the West Somerset yard at Minehead and Covid allowing she should be ready for mainline running again this year. This time round she has two new outside cylinders that reduce her width slightly to ease pathing restriction problems. The reduction has been achieved by using more modern, stronger steel which allows thinner casting walls, but all the internal dimensions etc are the same as original.

Afternoon all, Well my missus put off doing the shopping today so I might fall for going shopping with her tomorrow If it was up to me I'd shop from the comfort of the armchair & get it delivered every time

Roast chicken thighs, baked potatoes & salad for tea, I've been told no salad dressing as it's fattening

Lemon and pepper chicken fillets, baked potato and peas this evening.

Mrs SDA 'Well I think I'll have a glass of wine after seeing your beer. You know I'll never lose any weight if I keep on having wine'. It seems that after 44 years wed I'm leading her astray and notice the subtle twist that it's all my fault.

Morning all,

Trying to snow here, not amounting to much at the moment though.
Rain forecast for later today so doubt any snow will stick!
