Here's how I did mine

Nicely done. Months ago when I realised mine was broken I was away from home and had a roll of sticky foam in my pocket. Don't ask me why as I've no idea. Yours looks like a much better long term fix though.

I've no idea how to post pics but just for reference I have broken the small chrome piece next to the word "please" on this randomly selected ebay advert. Or rather the prongs underneath it have snapped off so the piece itself still looks okay from above.

Update: got the door fixed guys. Was a lot easier with the door open. I could even shine a light on the mechanism as I worked. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave advice. Arctic, I shall take your tip of leaving the door card off for a while

Hi Andrew.
great to hear you got the door working, treat all the rubber doors seals to a nice liberal spray of silicone to help stop the doors sticking in cold snaps.

Hi, thanks will do! Have also given the mechanism and latch a bit of white grease. Now that I can feel how good the passenger door feels, I can tell the driver's door will probably have the same problem in the near future. Really can't be bothered taking another door card off but I suppose I should

Well done for getting it done in the winter. I squirt ACF-50 into my door cavities (and lots of other places but never near brakes!) and around the lock etc every summer. Unfortunately, the tiny motors in the actuators eventually give up but at least you can open the doors manually most of the time if that happens. I take the top door catch bolt out and spray in through there too. Haven't had a problem since that treatment but time will tell.

It's a bad time of year for "mekaniks" (my spelling of the word to mean DIYers ). What you're describing sounds like the kind of day where you end up with goo and muck all over yourself but it sounds like good extra protection!
