It won't be possible to update the Android OS on the units, however it might be possible to update the MCU/bridge firmware which may even resolve the bluetooth issues.

Ideally you need to get the full system specs, should be "Settings > About device > Version info>" and we can then see if there's any updates.

As an update, the unit was missing a launcher, so that's installed now and it seems to behaving so far. The Bluetooth has not shut anything down as yet. The Compass app won't let me change to imperial lol, steering wheel controls now wired and working, need another set as the switches are a bit busted.

Hi fella, thanks for this:
From Settings:
Cedar Model
Android 4.4.2
Kernal3.0.36+
C200
Sept 2015
MCU Version RK3188:OLS_T21E02_VO1:TY1.02
Build No: C200.6.0.2Cedar100.C200.20150927.120821.C

Is there anything else you need?

And, as an aside, are there any aftermarket buttons that would work on this unit for more function?

The 34,336th 75 to run off the production line of 112,381
This was the 4,730th 75 CDT Connoisseur to be made out of 10,898
This was the 2,647th 75 in White Gold Metallic (code: GMN) to be made out of 12,251 White Gold Metallic 75s

To do
MK2 dials with IPK, FBH repair, headlining repair (again!) and some cosmetics.

Certainly looks like there's a couple of firmware updates for that Navall.
Depending on how familiar you are with Andriod/how much risk you're willing to take, there's a good chance you may even be able to update to Android 5.1!

For information, this Navall (did we establish if its a 2 or 3? Production date implies a 3) is just a rebranded Ownice C200. Here's the thread on XDA-Developers where Radioguy's claims that Navalls and their firmware are special are thoroughly debunked. (There's also some gems from the Russian members on how to drastically improve system stability).

I think having read that thread, the only bit we're missing is the number from the barcode on the unit to confirm it's revision C hardware. Once we find that out it should be trivial to work out which exact update package you need.

It's a 3, definitely a 3

To be fair, I'm not taking it out again lol. But I have another, exact same unit so I'll look on that.

Thanks again

Unit decided today to forget the launcher etc back on start-up lol.

Bar code on second unit is 7956121160129009, exactly the same type of unit, so I'm guessing it will be similar.

Any firmware links, upgrades and instructions welcome

Thanks Sean.
From the barcode, that unit was manufacturesd on 29th January 2016, so solidly revision C hardware.

MCU Update
Download hesi_mcu.bin from my dropbox here
Copy to blank SD card
Insert SD card into MAPS slot (very important!)
Settings -> General Settings -> System Update -> MCU Update -> Local Upgrade

Android firmware update
Copy update.zip from link above to blank SD card
Insert SD card into MAPS slot (very important!)
Settings -> General Settings -> System Update -> System Update -> Local Upgrade

I strongly recommend taking a full system backup (requires Android to be rooted) before doing an Android update. Just in case it turns out the Navall firmware is best, as it isn't available for download off the internet.

Android 5.1.1 update
Even more involved than above, let me know if you want to go down this route.

Thanks for this, I'm downloading it now.

One question, how do I back up the system before doing the update, is there a sequence or setting I go to on the unit menu's to do it?

If this works, I may try the android update

There is no backup you can do for the MCU update (always makes me nervous but there's no reports of people bricking their units with it!)

Backing up Android before doing that upgrade, you'd need to root (jailbreak) it with something like Kingroot, then use a backup app like TitaniumBackup.
Sorry, I've no experience with this part of the process to properly recommend stuff - I just know it's an extremely prudent step, especially as there's some suggestion that the Navall apps may be better than the Ownice ones.

If only we'd been able to get a proper image from Sean before he disappeared!
