My Brain Hurts!
It's getting harder................... no not that! To identify screw and bolt heads:-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ives#Polydrive They don't want you to DIY!

There are a few there I've never heard of nor come across; some understandably discourage DIY...

Well I don’t care. I’ve got my own bolt hole. So there.

Puts me in mind of when I had a Norton Commando. I think they used what ever nut and bolt was in the bucket behind them on the production line. AF, Whitworth, you name it, every conceivable British thread, nut, bolt type. Only thing you wouldn't find was metric! More than once I'd go to start a job then grind to a halt, always with the same question in my mind . . . . WTF is supposed to fit that

there is also a list of nuts on wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nut_(hardware) interestingly, a STOVER nut isn't listed - i think they're used on the bottom front wishbone pinch bolt. Last edited by hinged_bap; 10th January 2021 at 20:16.. |

I hear you! Same on my Trident (1972). Though my previous bikes ('68 Bonnie backwards) were all Whitworth as far as I can remember... My 1996 BMW M3 - though all Metric - specialised in using bolts and Allen screws of odd, intermediate sizes that didn't seem to come with your average socket or key set

Still got mine. Thing is with the Commando it was far more ancient than it looked. You could trace the engine back to the 1940s and the gearbox twenty odd years earlier, and the threads they used were common place then. |
