Default Rover 75 2.0 V6 Large amount of coolant leak and steam

My missus on her way back noticed lots of steam coming out from under the bonnet. She got back home safely but around 2 litres of coolant gone missing.

There was enough antifreeze before she left in the morning as I have checked it day before whilst filling up.

I just topped up again nearly 2 litres and you can see the effects on the pictures. Quite scary

Luckily we have the AA parts and labour cover so hopefully it will not ruin my wallet.

Cant see the pictures but I would suspect the stat housing or a pipe to it.

Could also be the water pump or the seal to it.

But I would drive it till the fault is found or fixed.

I notice you removed the engine cover panel. What did you see?

Yes, thermostat housing has probably split.

Very common and bundles of Stats in stock here.
The leak would have been very minimal to start with
(and the clue would have been the very pungent smell of Antifreeze even from a few drops)
Now I believe you have visible steam coming out of bonnet !!
£200 fitted our price.
