I believe knowing the coolant temperature is useful whatever the engine. Diesels can overheat as any engine can. But overheating is only part of it. Diesels tend to run too cool, so I'd like to know how cool. It can affect mpg by 10% or so.

Not too sure if Hans makes these anymore! I think there was someone else having a go at making them but all gone very quiet now.

There are commercialy available displays that give lots more info but not sure of the name of them either.

I'll get me coat

Hans stopped making these several years ago I believe due to ill health, there was a copy manufactured in the UK in conjunction with Member Vindaloo, the gauge used just 3 wires all easily accessible behind the radio, and taking data directly from the OBD via K-Bus.

The original cost, though possibly saving £100s in HGF repairs, was deemed too expensive by most 75/ZT owners even though it could be fitted across the entire engine range and give live temperature data throughout every journey.

Eventually this version was discontinued though you may be able to commission one if you contact Vindaloo for Jack's contact details.

if you can make the blue tooth OBD dongle work then torque on a smartphone or tablet will give you the temp....

the dongle is less than 20 quid... the app is free or a few quid dependent on pro or not...
