Default 2001 Rover 75 2.5 connoisseur rack adjustment

Hi Folks
Is it possible to adjust the play in the steering rack in situ.
With my old SD1 shims could be added or replaced to adjust play by removing a plate on the rack body.Any advice most welcome and appreciated.

Kind Regards Dan Gardner

The rack to pinion clearance isn't adjustable, though I've never read of any need to do so. Are you sure the slop is there and not in the linkages to the front wheels? There are four ball joints that should be examined just in the steering system, but umpteen others that may create sloppy steering..

What symptoms does it have?

Default 2001 Rover 75 steering rack

Thanks for the reply,I have not been under the car yet,the steering feels very light and worn,I know with adjustable racks you can get that new car precision feel back again. But as you say there are a lot of joints to check.

Best Wishes Dan
