Default Speedo problems

Hi, The car went for a mot last week which it passed with no problems but on the way back the mechanic noticed the speedo was not working also the steering wheel controls for the radio not working and central locking didn't operate when it got to 5 mph, so we checked all the fuses inside and under the bonnet cleaned them all still nothing working, any ideas what else to check.?

Chris.

It needs to be sprinkled with water from St Ann's well

On the other hand the OSF ABS sensor and or wheel bearing needs looking at

In which case, the ABS would be complaining too. So did it pass with the ABS light on, or with the ABS light blanked out .

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I think that you may have a multiplex fault Christopher. A faulty OSF ABS sensor would not cause the other faults you mention.

Shouldn't a non working speedo have resulted in an MOT fail?

Absolutely, but they don't road test them so likely would not spot the fault on the rolling road.

Are you saying the ABS warning light comes on at switch on, then goes off, or never comes on at all?

There is a naughty circuit which can be used to fool an MOT tester, but it would be more common for someone to do that by blanking the light with a bit of tape to cover it.

Which suggests the O/S/F sensor passes basic diagnostics. Does the ABS cut in on a slippy surface, like wet grass. If so it suggests the speedo is somehow not receiving the speed pulses from the O/S/F sensor.
