The way it is fitted into the engine block makes no difference to its operation, as far as horizontal or vertical is concerned, Its a closed system
I would expect the Stat to be in or close to the block, not at the radiator end----- ZT Top is using same logic as myself, I am familiar with similar engines to him Agree with Alrsv, another way of expressing what I was trying to convey Last edited by Martynp; 2nd March 2011 at 21:38.. Oh my gawd the eyes are back!! *swoons*
So the thermo has a spring and on the end of that a circular bit that opens. have a look at the circular bit and see which way it opens, if you look it will only open one way, its too big to open the other way.. having don't that, put it into the hole spring first, but don't forget the gasket goes on first (before the thermo) ... It would have helped if you had posted pics.. heh heh.. If your sis gets any probs in future, tell her to join this forum --- http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ It is an excellent site with very helpfull and knowledgeable people.. ... ... What is the function of the thermostat.?
It is a valve or tap which only opens once the coolant in the block is up to running temperature. You can run the engine without it being fitted but without that valve then it will take longer for all of the coolant in the engine and system to come up to running temperature, which is an inefficient way to run an engine, uses more fuel until all of the coolant in the system is up to running temperature. Leave it out for now if you cannot fathom how it works-----will do no harm! All the parts of the stat you described in your last post will have not be seen when stat fitted correctly into the block Last edited by Martynp; 2nd March 2011 at 22:13.. Reason: typo |

Well Poppy, it popped out so just pop it back in! as you describe
With a new gasket & tighten the housing bolts. If old gasket then apply some gasket Blue to assist sealing into its housing. You are lovely-----but you do make it difficult for us chaps sometimes lol Last edited by Martynp; 2nd March 2011 at 22:29.. Reason: typo |
