I need to change brakes - what is best?
hello everybody,
i have a Rover 75 2.0 CDTi 2003. Some time ago the indicator light up for the brakes. I need to change them (the brake calipers - hope this is the word, english is my second language). What do you recommend to use??? I heard people recommend me ATE, other TRW, other TEXTAR ... who makes the originals for Rover 75? what brand? please help me. thanks

You should be able to get the original spec discs and pads from Xpart or Rimmers here in the UK. I imagine they will ship abroad if you pay the postage.
I just put new discs and pads all round on my CDT and it cost about £100. Can't remember what brand they were but they were just bog standard cheap things. Can't see the point in paying twice as much for brakes that are not going to last twice as long. If I were driving a v8 or even a V6 I might be a bit more choosy but the standard CDT isn't going to pack enough punch to make special brakes worth it. Just my opinion of course.

I've tried all different brands & came to the conclusion the OEM parts are best for spilling the least corrosive powder on yer alloys.

thank you for the answers ... and for the corrections
ok i need brake pads and yes i think wear sensors are needed too. but still nobody said what brand to go for... here in romania going to Rover shop is 3-4 times more expensive than to go into a normal auto shop and buy the parts. Same costs for the mechanics. Please tell me what would you choose between this: - TRW - PAGID - ATE - TEXTAR or if you have other suggestions let me know ... i am looking for a soft brake pad that will not destroy my brake discs. thank you

I guess you have access to eBay? There are always discs, pads and sensors for sale there. If you can't see any MGR ones, those manufactured by Mintex are of high quality. The slow wearing away of discs is a fact of life I'm afraid. The pads suggested are the correct hardness for the car.

To be honest I haven't heard of any of those but I highly recommend Mintex of you can get them.

a question for you, is the brake pad warning on all 4 brakes, as when i had wheel off yesterday there is no brake pad warning wire on the pads on the passenger side front.
havent checked the other side yet, no light on the dash(does this have its own fuse, may never been removed)

You tend to get what you pay for though, so don't go for the cheapest.

I fitted mintex discs and pads over 20,000 miles ago and they are awful, after I first fitted them I took them back off to make sure I had not got copper slip on them somewhere. They have passed 2 MOTs so obviously work but when I drive another car I tend to go through the windscreen on braking for the first time. EBC are very good (they do standard brakes as well as green stuff / red stuff pads e.t.c) and good price often with free delivery. I would stick to OE if possible though for pads at least. |
