An eight track was an audio system that was a forerunner to the compact cassette.
It used a continuous loop tape housed in a push in cassette with 1/4" tape with 4 stereo tracks (8 track) Very popular in the U.S. didn't fair as well here, sales started to drop around 1975. my dad had one in his scimitar gte.remember elton john's goodbye yellow brick road..think the tape used to snap and you had selector button for four tracks on the tape
