Mildly surprised that they didn't ask for;

Mother's maiden name
Name of favourite Pet
First school

......

Or would that have been too obvious.... One thing may be worth being wary of though is that this type of email asking for supporting ID information might be sent based on them already having some of the more important info. (Account code, sort-code, name, e-mail).

Neither set of information is secret - Account code, etc is needed to be known by a merchant taking payment. But added to other information about you can be used to gain access to accounts by hoodwinking unwary call centres.

Some are much more convincing, much less obvious scams. Here is a follow up email, to an earlier one...

'We emailed you a little while ago to ask for your help resolving an issue
with your account. Your account is still temporarily limited because
we haven't heard from you.'

It was supposed to be about my Paypal account and linked to a pretend Paypal login page. I obviously didn't try to log in, nor could I - I use auto login software and don't even have my details to be able to manually login. The login will only work with the correct Paypal URL. Paypal any way, always include your name with any email they send you.

On those rare occasions when my bank rings, I always refuse to give them any ID details - they rang me, surely they need to convince me who they are, not me them. They are welcome to leave me a contact department and name. If necessary I ring them back, but using a different phone, to avoid them using the spoofed dialling tone.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Excellent advice.
