Wonder where you would stand in the event of a accident caused by failed rusty brake pipes , defective tyres, suspension ?

Sorry to hear about your accident, but it just goes to show what a racket car insurance is. And another moot point to me is, when people, mostly the young are caught with no insurance, they are only fined a fraction of what they would be paying in insurance cost’s if they had bought insurance in the first place. Something very wrong with the system if you ask me.

Remember you need to keep your car in a roadworthy condition.
Both my insignias are due in less than 3 weeks so will be MOT’d this week as a few local testers are still open.

This applies to all cars even without the extension. The mot test is the condition of the vehicle for that one hour on that one day, it’s always up to the owner to ensure road worthiness

I had two of my cars mot’d early in March just in case thing got to where we are today. The classic car will get an extension but it only generally covers around 100 miles per year but I’m guessing it will be less this year...

I have just tried to tax my Skoda online, the tax runs out on 30 April & the MOT expires on 29 April. The application has just been rejected as having no MOT in force on 1 May. I have emailed the DVLC using the email address above so we will wait & see what happens

Thanks Pete for the information, I couldn't find anything in the gov.uk website that tells us what to do.

If there is an mot testing station open, get it moted. If you are not using the car, sorn it. If there are no mot testing stations open then yes there is a possible grey area, be interested to know what DVLA have to say.

I think you need to have certain amount of MOT before you can get tax? Your options are to MOT early or tax after the MOT extension has been put into place. Your choice...

Mike, I'm sure you can have the car tested in the interim, however from the Gov. website......

If your vehicle tax and MOT run out in April
You cannot renew your vehicle tax until your MOT expiry date has been extended. It will be extended a few days before it was originally due to expire.

This means you might need to wait until later in April to tax your vehicle.

Check that the MOT expiry date has been extended before you tax your vehicle.
