Missing Keys - ZT260 Australia
Hello knowledgeable friends,
A ZT 260 has just been listed for sale in Australia. I think there were only ever around 50 imported into Australia. The catch is they cannot locate the keys and it is a deceased estate sale. So the question is, can replacement keys and fobs be obtained? and if so what is involved in getting them cut and coded for the car? As a side note, access to a T4 in Australia is also pretty rare. Thanks, David |

PM Big Russ a trader on here - he is a key/ECU guru - he might be able to code some keys worth dropping him a line.

The best way of doing it would be to order a new key via x-part or through Rimmer bros. They're not cheap but at least they come pre-cut and will start the car.
The remote won't work until it's been coded to the car until the car has been on T4 as the car has to be present. They usually take around 10 days from order to completion plus delivery times. The other way would be to call a good automotive locksmith, with the right equipment they will be able to read the lock, cut the key and then remove the immobilizer to read that and generate a new transponder. Key cutting records and the transponder records aren't available commercially and the new keys are produced by BMW for X-part as they do hold the records, as the EWS immobilizer is a BMW item. Russ

T4s in Melbourne.
Hello David,
That is sound advice from BigRuss. As he mentioned you still need to code the remote to the cars body control unit via a T4. Are you able to have the car trailered to Melbourne? My friend, an auto engineer spent a few weeks at the U K. Rover factory prior to the R40’s Australian launch. We each have a T4 and I code keys. If you wish, please feel free to PM me. Regards Bruce. |
