well thats great news. saved you alot of work and alot of cash. !!! i wouldnt be so self critical as it has to be good news at the end of the day. im very sure a gearbox specialist would have advised a box rebuild or repair (they always do) so ten out of ten for trying to sort the problem out yourself. the good side to this as well is the box now has had a good flushing out and with care and service it should be good for many miles as they are pretty durable if treated well. once your fan is sorted then your good to go and hope you get many years of pleasure from the car as i have mine. they are magnificent cars even if at times they can test you to the limit . good luck and happy days ..

I thought I would try what you suggested in terms of gearing manually in order to test if that makes any difference.

One question that was brought up by my wife the first time she helped me, but that I didn't make much of then, but perhaps it is important:

The instrument cluster doesn't show what gear is selected anywhere - is it supposed to be like that, or is something failing there aswell, or has that anything to do with the case? If it should - could communication perhaps be lost between the car and the gearbox thus causing the problems?

I should also add, that the front is off, and also the inner wheel arches and therefore the Abs-connectors and such are all disconnected - it's not so, that this makes it go into some sort of safety mode?
I do hope you remembered to also thank your wife Mattias :-)

I've found this post to be an interesting read, as I may own an automatic one day :-)

Thank you for keeping us informed of the outcome, and thank you to everyone who contributed - I am pleased it was a low cost solution.

Tommy :-)
