Think that Brian has "retired" from the forum for at least a while ... but I hope I can help:

If I understand correctly you have changed your IPK (instrument cluster or IKE). You now have a mismatch in the mileage (odometer) between the IPK and the LSM (light switch module) and various other modules.

You can’t correct the IPK yourself but what you can do is change the mileage in the LSM to match the IPK and the “ERR” message will go away. Or if you could get the LSM from the same car as your IPK, then there would be no ERR mismatch.

Otherwise the easiest method for you in your location is to use the programme Toaf (use the search field), a VW KKL usb cable with pins 7 & 8 bridged, and any Windows computer to correct this. When you’ve got Toaf and the cable, go into VIN tools and select copy VIN/mileage from IKE to LSM. No more ERR.

Regards

My err message is there all the time. I have just gone out to the car and in fact when you turn the key 1 click the odometer is showing but one more click and before starting and err appears and stays there.
A trip up north to fix it and a pint of Newcastle Brown would be a lovely distraction during lockdown but a bit far from Kent just to erase 3 pesky letters. Anyone closer to home know how to fix it? A bottle of my finest from the cellar to anyone who can do it near me.
I have the same problem with my 02 Connie, I understand its just a glitch in the software and happens when you start her up quickly. If it bothers you try waiting for 5 seconds after turning the key to position 2, then turn start her up and it should have cleared.

Thanks for your help, I have the cable and the software, but I do not have jumpered pins 7 and 8, even so I have tried and the truth only detects 1 module called "DDE / DME"

I've replied to your PM.

Once you've bridged pins 7 and 8 you will be able to read all modules. Most people use solder but even thin wire will work.

Good luck
