I removed the glass and slide again, checked everything, and refitted the glass without the slide as I've ordered a refurb kit for £12.99. BMW spec but six out of the eleven parts are what I need. Rimmers and some other Rover parts suppliers charge £28 each just for the clips alone although http://mgrovergenuine.co.uk/genuine-mg-rover-parts/mg-rover-exn100150-stop-guide-sunroof have them for £9.48.
I was able to lever the glass back a little (1-2mm) whilst tightening the front & rear screws and it seems to have made a difference. Noise increases about 55mph upwards but then it might always have done that. I can't tell now really so I'll give it the 7-day test after I've refitted the blind later in the week. Dougie.

Drama's over. I removed the glass again and refitted the refurbished slide after silicone-spraying the metal runners on the roof cradle. Refitted the glass and adjusted it again as per Rave (front flush or 1.0mm down, rear flush or 1.0mm up), plus levered it back with a piece of firm plastic as far as it would go (2.0mm) and it's all perfect. Unlike the vertical, there's no actual horizontal adjustment built in to the frame but for mine at least, that little pushback pressure sealed it up nicely.
Thanks for the input. Dougie.

Hi, since first asking the question, i've done nothing yet...covid, lockdown, weather..so it's not been a problem, but now we're getting towards national relase date, and i will want to open sunroof again, i guess i'd better make use of all these excellent posts...enough info there to tackle whatever Rover throw at me...cheers.

When I bought my ZT-T the glass sunroof did not work and the blind was missing. I have fixed the roof but I cannot find a blind. It does not bother me to much as I enjoy the light coming in. If I fit a blind it looks like it is attached to the sunroof frame. In that case can the blind be slid back to expose the closed glass sunroof?

Great. I assumed it could. Does the blind slide back automatically when the roof is powered open? Reading many posts it appears that the blind can easily jam and mess up the works. Would it not be simpler for the blind not to be attached to the sunroof and the great ordeal of opening the blind first by hand before powering open the roof would have to be endured. 😁
What I am trying to decide is do I let sleeping dogs lie and accept no blind but a beautifully operating sunroof or attempt to source and fit and adjust and readjust and unjam from time to time the full installation as per ex factory. Advice please.

Regarding jamming, perhaps I've been lucky but my car is coming up to 22 years old and the blind has always worked smoothly. But you've reminded me that I should check the runners for dust and perhaps apply a little light lubrication. Quote:
I suppose it boils down to this. Do you want the car to look as original as possible or are you content to let practical considerations prevail? Simon

Simon, your comments are interesting. I chose not to order a sunroof when new because I had found on a previous car (800) that when passing along a tree lined road the flickering light caused me visual problems. Apart from that the hot glass was another reason.

KWIL, I love the glass roof and at my age I need as much light surrounding me as
possible. I contemplated changing my V6 ZT-T for a diesel of similar age and mileage but it did not have a sunroof and it felt really gloomy and claustrophobic sitting in the drivers seat so absolutely not. Not yet had any distraction from it. IMO the sun roof makes this good car great

If you search on here there should be a 'how to' on replacing these little clips. One of mine was broken and one of the sliders was also broken so the blind on mine had a tendency to stick or come out of the runners, so I usually opened in manually just in case. |
