sorry to ask a dumb question, are there different types?
If there are, what are the differences?

One has a dog guard in it and the other hasn't. It's OK I thought they were all the same to.

There are or at least were 3 types. Plain cover only, cover + metal dog guard and cover + fabric mesh upper load restraint.

As above

Metal genuine dog guard.

2

Parcel restraint built in guard, this is not a dog guard.
3

The rear on in the photo is just a cover no mesh net restraint.

Might be worth a look on facebook market place and the MGR sales pages. I got one off there from a Rover breaker to replace my netless one and he was happy to send via courier. Came in a lot cheaper than eBay too.

The original metal dog guards are rare they do crop up now and again, i sold mine after our Bruno passed, i used to also use just the net type before i managed to purchase the metal guard.
