Actually the power from the jump leads doesn't need to go through the battery.

You could take the battery out and the car would start quite happily with just the jump leads attached.---

Here endeth todays lesson.---
Oh Dear thanks for the English lesson, F.U.B.A.R,d any better?

It sound like the battery may be low or dead, test it with a meter, also clean up the spade end on the starter motor.

Connect the (red) booster cable between the positive terminals (+) of both batteries.

If you are going to do an emergency start, (jump) it then be sure to have the leads correctly so you do not have any spikes, on the diesel black booster cable from the (-) negative terminal of the donor battery/car, to a good earth point on the non starting car, ie an engine mount, or other unpainted surface, at least 20" away from the battery, make sure the cables are away from moving parts.

Start the donor car and allow to idle for a few minutes, then try the dead car do not crank for more than 15 seconds at a given time, allowing a least 5 minutes between starts.

Once you get the both cars running alloy them to idle together for a few minutes before switching off the donor car, and disconnect the cables from that car first, make sure the cables do not touch each other, good luck.

Best to give Rav some time to report anything worth reporting back with?
I’m sure he’ll respond when he’s got something worth responding to.
It’s not always that easy to check out various suggestions, especially if it’s not a daily runner, or stored locally.
Other than that, life sometimes has other priorities..😳.

Good luck Rav. As suggested, the first thing must be to charge the battery, and check the voltage. That should give strong indications. Do the interior lights come on? Does everything react on switches showing power? When you switch the ignition on, can you hear the normal systems come to life?

Hi everyone

Things are getting a bit desperate now.

Update

Car still doesn’t start. It’s been sat in the garage for 19 months now. He can’t figure out what’s wrong with it. He’s looked at everything. He seems to now think it could be an issue with the high pressure pump.
Fuel is going through the other two pumps. And, there is more than enough diesel in it.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Default Non starting

Hi rav, hope you haven’t got the same problem as I had on my tourer, possibly when you have tried to start with very low battery you will need the ews box recoded to ecu, my tourer had low battery and clicked when I tried to start and I instantly knew not to try and start it or turn key to try again but stupidly I did and it clicked again and had to take ecu and ews box off car and send to Brian, after return and parts back on it instantly started.. hope this helps…

I think you mean ews, the body control module won't stop the car from starting.
