Hi
Had mine up on trolley jack and if that's not a shot bearing IKBA. Pal works at a motor factors and can get me a FAG bearing for £55. The SNR is online through Autodoc for £41 plus del @ £8.45. FAG used to be really good. Any thoughts as I'll order tomorrow! Saw the 32 versus 36(bad memory) discussion about the stakenut. I'm assuming that's mm as someone said AF****************! Can you still buy individual sockets like the way I built up my Britool set all those years ago? Johnny BG Last edited by JohnnyBG; 20th November 2019 at 16:49.. Reason: spelling |

Yes, Jonny bg, Halfords sold me a single black hex (at a price) when I needed to get my front hubs off.

This sounds much easier than expected, so assuming it doesn't produce an MoT fail (car is in right now), I'll tackle a humming rear bearing when I get the car back - even if I only grease it for now. Should all 4 hubs have bearing caps? Where can they be bought?

Hope all went well on MoT. Mine passed with a noisy wheel bearing (unless I've just wasted my money and it was the tyre but I doubt it). Popping a cap off and checking I haven't got a socket to fit already iin the "not part of a set" box.
Fortunately I have all my little caps but when I have more important elements sorted I'll be seeking some nicer ones - and a bonnet badge - ha ha. My 1956 motorcycle still has original pairs of taper bearings in but I open up, clean, re-grease and and keep greased. JohnnyBG |

Well, eventually got the stake nut off after warming it up and standing on the bar. The socket from Halfords not cheap but very robust.
Unfortunately the rear part of the bearing stayed on the stub axle! Work for the little Dremel copy from Lidl. Unfortunately the washer RYF100450 snapped it's little tang. There was also no wheel bearing cap RLF10001. So thought I'd order and make the job right. Rimmers want £7.95 to ship parts costing about the same. But can't find them elsewhere so looks like I'll have to do it. Mechanics pal said not to bother and re-use the washer as is but my view is that the washer was put there with a tang like that for a reason. JohnnyBG |

Forgot to say that in the How to it mentions the caliper retaining bolts at 13mm. I didn't have a combination spanner that size, bought one and then they were 17mm. I used a "C" spanner and got away with it because they were off not so long ago.
Are mine unusual or does the How to need an edit? It was great otherwise. JohnnyBG |

Big washer and Thank you!
This guide was a great help when I replaced my rear bearing this morning. The only thing that seems to be missing is to say replace the large washer before replacing the hub nut. It might be in the threads but I couldn't find it. This guide meant I only spent one hour 30 minutes doing the job, thank you so much. My car is no quiet and doesn't sound like its being followed by a helicopter!
Best wishes to all, Bob |

I presume you are referring to the washer below in the photos. 1 2 3 If so yes its standard you have to put this washer back on before doing adding a new hub nut.
