3000 Rpm
1.8T in 5th at 3000 rpm, is this the optimum engine speed!
I find travelling at 3000 rpm the car is purring along at just below 70 mph with no rattles very little wind and road noise, feeling sturdy & luxurious, also just within the speed limit so the many camera vans on bridges over the M4 around Bridgend & Cardiff are wasting their time Acheiving around 36 - 37 mpg. Just sit back sinking into the leather & enjoy

I am the same in my 1.8T
Driving from my home in Caerphilly in South Wales to my fathers house in Irvine Scotland I do a steady 70mph and the car just loves it. Great mileage too, from door to door and still just under half a tank of petrol left. Who says 1.8s are naff. Mike |

If you read the reports around the interweb the 1.8T is often the preferred engine

Well I certainly prefer it-yes 'cause I've got one. Anyone else want to stand up for the 1.8's instead of reading that this is the one not to buy. We are a sensitive bunch you know.

At 65 mph it was on 2k exactly. I also have over half a tank left The IPK is stating 40.9 MPG but we all know that reads high.
