Paul my advice is go and see a solicitor, you normally get 15 mins of their time for free, at least then you will know for certain where you stand with regard to the legality of the issue.

I also agree with pre mentioned post about writing to them and informing them of a storage fee (high of course) and a deadline for collection.

Also I believe if you write them a letter (Recorded delivery) stating they have 30 days to collect the goods otherwise they will be disposed of you will be perfectly fine.

At the end of the day you are responsable for the goods until they are collected but the store has a 'reasonable period' to collect the goods. If it's no in the original contract of sale what this period is you have been more than reasonable.

If you write to them telling them this reasonable period is about to end and they do nothing then it's not your problem.

I have to say I think thats spot on Steven, the word "Reasonable" comes up constantly in law and as long as you have been reasonable you should be fine.

Absolutely.

They have a 'reasonable' time to collect.
You have to take 'reasonable' care of the item

The important thing is to tell them what you are going to do and give them enough time to act upon it.

If you do this you will be covered as the courts are always 'reasonable'

I would have a word with your local trading standards and tell them the story----but as long as you are reasonable.
