automatic gear change
Hi all question about automatics, it may just be me as this is my first automatic rover cdt, it seems to me that it takes a while to change up gears and needs to be doing at least 30+ before going into top gear, i find the mileage really poor driving in town if under 30 it changes down it may be my driving i also have a bmw x3 2.0d manual which i think is better around town, can anyone enlighten me as to whether it's normal or is there a problem thanks in advance

Remember top gear is 5th, and mine doesn't usually go into top until about 30mph. Been the same for 11 years! The V6s do seem to change up much quicker. make sure you have not inadvertently selected sport mode which does hold gears longer.

Remember the gearbox won’t lock up in top gear until the fluid is up to temperature.

Mines not a diesel, KV6 Rover75. 20mph into 3rd. 30mph into 4th . 40mph into 5th. Locks up around 60 mph in 5th. That’s on light throttle in economy.
