Default RIP John Le Carre

Spy thriller novelist John Le Carry has died aged 89. Never read any of his books but a well known author.

He wrote under a pen name, his real name being David Cornwell. I bought but have never finished reading "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" which a CIA internal publication concluded was "presumably written by agents under pseudonyms". David Cornwel was indeed a former intelligence officer with the secret intelligence service so that conclusion was pretty much on the mark. He certainly new his onions with this kind of topic and it shows in his writing. A great author and a sad loss but at 89 he had a good innings relative to most I think.

The writing was crisp with nothing wasted. So was Alec Guinness as Smiley, aptly named. Never tire of it and see something else in that film every time.

Le Carre, one of my favourite authors.

If you want a real life non fiction read, try Next Stop Execution, the autobiography of Soviet IO Oleg Gordiesky
