I’ve had 2 facelift 75 saloons and neither of them had a retaining cable for the fuel cap, just the black plastic stowage clip that it sat in whilst you refuelled.
Also no cable shown on page 101 of the owners handbook. |

Definitely fitted to mine as standard. There are grummet holes in both the cap and flap hinge to attach it.I'll take a pic when I get chance.

Update, should have checked before posting earlier but the restraining lead on my Tourer (which appears to be original because it's looking well aged/cracked) is a rubber like material and no metal wire involved. Last edited by rab60bit; 9th August 2021 at 15:42.. Reason: Accuracy |

I have a 2006 facelift model and there is no provision within the cap for a retaining cord. Perhaps these were a Project Drive deletion?

My Contemporary LEF saloon came off the production line 15th March 2004 (just noticed it was the 150th 75 in LEF), identical spec. Contemporary LEF Tourer rolled out just about a month later.
Just received my replacement cap lead this morning but when I went to fit it...?The petrol flap on my saloon is like yours with the keyhole fixing for the cap lead on the metal hinge bracket. IMG_2601.JPG The Tourer however is different with the keyhole being on the plastic flap metal support frame IMG_2600.JPG the flap hinge etc. look identical in shape/size so......maybe dual sourced item or just another MGR design mystery. The new lead seems to do for both so no worries. |
