Default BL cars.

I've not worked on them since my apprenticeship and my memory is fading. I know the Metro and some Mini's had the hydrogas suspension, but which others did? I am pondering getting an older BL and am no sure what to go for. I love the look of the Allegro but I've a feeling that has Hydrogas suspension too. I would prefer a car to have a car with normal suspension for ease of maintainance.

Hi Phil.

You are correct. The Allegro, Princess/Ambassador, Maxi and MGF all had Hydragas.

Check here:http://www.hydragas.co.uk/technical.html

Yes that suspension system is a pain. Thats why I would rather steer clear. If they leaked and such like and dropped when they were 5 to 10 years old, imagine what state they are in now. And the lack of those hydrogas recharge tools.

If MGFs have it I would have thought places that can top it up should still be available?

Buy a Morris 1800!

I had to push start ours to get to school EVERY day! (Yes, I'm still cross about it)

But then they got an Alfasud?.......

Hydrogas top ups are readily available all over the place.

I didn't think of that. The last time I serviced hydrogas suspension, the equipment was antique!

Thanks for the link. I forgot the Ambassador has hydrogas. I was looking at one for sale on the net earlier.

The Morris is pretty. Are they based on a Maxi?

Vice-versa, the 1800/2200 series "landcrab" was the predecessor of the MAXI.
