Default Oil filter query

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and new to the Rover experience too.
Probably a dumb question but i'm about to give my 03 Rover 75 CDT Tourer an oil change. I noticed that along with the large rubber oil seal supplied with the oil fliter the pack also includes a smaller copper seal. Can anyone tell where the smaller seal goes?
Any help here would be appreciated folks.

That's the sump washer, however pretty much every CDT oil filter gives you the wrong one.
Was it from myself? If so, you should find the correct washer in the box. I include them free of charge.

Thanks for that. I thought it was for the sump plug but it was nowhere near the sump plug diameter so i thought it was for something else that i wasn't aware of.
Again many thanks.

No problem at all - it caught me out too! Much head scratching was done before I found others have had the same issue.

Remember to cover your alternator, they really don't like oil

Oh, so that's what the copper washer is supposedly for, not that I'd need the correct one, as I use a Pela pump..and yes, you need the 36mm socket if/when you change the filter, which I only do every other time, as I change diesel's oil at less that 5k miles. Thanks Matt, regards, Mike M.

Changing the oil more frequently than the recommended service intervals won't do any harm, but in my experience with the M47R engine there don't appear to be any advantages, so it's a waste of time and money.

Under normal operating conditions, if you change the engine oil and filter every 15k miles or annually, whichever comes first, with a good quality oil and filter you will be fine.

I have to agree with you Mike. I used to change my oil every 5000 miles but felt that there was no advantage, so dont anymore.
