Default Car makes strange noise from instrument panel

Hi guys,

My car:

Rover 75 -01 V6 2.5L.

The last couple of weeks the car or basically something near the instrument panel makes a really strange noise, can't really describe what it is but almost like a warning but it does not beep. Sound as it comes from a "speaker" almost near the key.

It can happend 1 times during the drive or maybe 2-3 times.

It happend again today and shortly after the car basically died and I had to restart it, I was driving about 30km/h.
Then 2 hours later I started the car again and drived and I saw that the "check engine" lamp turned on fast, with another icon I didn't see but the car made it and did not die.

What can be the problem? Is the fualt codes saved so the repaircenter can check it out?

I do change oil every year or after 1500miles (1mile=10000km). I have driven 6000 miles since i got the car 3 years ago and I have NOT changed the the filter for the gas, the brakes fluid (I know I should do that) and I have also NOT changed the spark plugs.
I had problem with the watercooling 6 months ago but filled it up with water and it has not overheated since then.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for great help as ALWAYS! Really appreciated

Could be a short, perhaps from wear or water..??

I would check the boot, under the wings where the loom is and every other place I can find a unit, plug or connector.

Check the LSM, the BCU and fusebox in the passenger footwell, check the carpets for wet...

Hi thanks for the answer, I am from Sweden so a bit hard to understand some of the definitions.

Boot? Wings/loom?

I can check the fusebox, no problem. Do I have to take everyone out individually to check if it has "exploded".

LSM/BCU. Que? Links?

EDIT! I just think the noise is so strange, someone needs to know the noise?

Check for water in the trunk?? (back of the car, spare wheel well etc)

The light switch module (if you have a sunroof the drain can block and water runs down the A-pillar at the front of the car)
The BCU is the body control unit which is above the fusebox in the passenger foot well

The wings (fender ? part over the passanger side front wheel), the main wiring bundle (Loom) from the engine bay runs through here and if water has got into the wiring then there can be short circuits which can stall the engine and other symptoms...

YES!!! exactly!!!
What is it?!?!

NOTE! I have problems with the ABS sensor since one of them are fualty, so the instrument panel shows both ABS and tractional control are problems, but that can't be why the engine turns off and what makes the cars instrument panel sound like that?

Search for Whale noise, it's quite common. Possibly aircon regas & check your fan is working properly http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ht=whale+noise

Just to clarify, the sound seems to be coming from inside the car, from a small speaker!

So has this something to do with the cooling of the car/engine or has it to do with the AC/Fan.
And how is this connected with the engine turning off? (Maybe it has nothing to do with it)?

Can I drive the car right now without worrying?

BTW! I m using the fog lights when driving because I haven't changed the Lowbeam yet. Has it anything to do with this?
