Clutch oil problem?
I have a 75 saloon CDTi se 2004 90k. A couple of months back my cluch deteriated over a short space in time. Took it to the local mechanic. He found the clutch oil holder, located in the inside of the car, way above the clutch peddle (a trick job by all accounts but inexpensive) and topped up the oil. Clutch working again
Now I am experiencing the same thing again. I'm sure I would have noticed oil leaking as I had my hand up the clutch peddle the other day to clip my cruise controll back into place (worked its way loose after having the cluch oil originaly topped up). What's happening to my clutch? More oil AGAIN? Appriciate any views on this. Jay

If the clutch master cylinder has failed, you'll find a damp patch on the carpet. If not then the chances are the slave cylinder inside the gearbox is leaking.

Thanks for pic. No dampness in foot well or oil stains where I park. Would there be oil stains if the slave cylinder was leaking?

Look around the gearbox where it bolts to the engine....you may find a damp patch.

Hydraulic fluid leaking from a faulty slave unit will be found dripping from a small hole in the lowest part of the bell housing which surrounds the clutch and is bolted to the gearbox. Replacing the slave is one of the more expensive jobs on these cars. Some report up to £1000 some around £500. It depends on who does it.
Whoever does the job, they should fit the Freelander diesel slave unit. This is much more robust than the original and costs half the price. It fits all 75 and ZT variants. The complete clutch system should also be renewed because of the amount of dismantling involved. By the time the slave has failed, the master will be well worn, so that also should be replaced. I had exactly the same symptons. It was the slave cylinder that had gone. It means removing the gearbox to get at it. So you may as well change the clutch at the same time. I got mine done by A1 clutches of Tipton, Birmingham - Great place. It cost me 329.00 a few months ago, I think it is about 350.00 Now. I had quotes of up to 1300.00 which included the DMF which I did not need changing.
