Default Rust Prevention Treatment

Has anyone used, or knows anyone who has used, a company called Ultimate Car Rust Treatment & Prevention
www.CarRustTreatment.co.uk
They have quoted me £525 for treating The 75 with a Scandinavian treatment called Mercasol, seems a lot of money but I've sold my TF & want to use the cash to prolongue the life of the Rover. The reason is they are the closest to me having a depot in Darlington.
They seem to do everything the other treatment companies do but using this Scandinavian stuff
Any advice gratefully received!
I also intend to have the wheels powder coated from Stella Blast, just up the road, anybody used them?

I had quotes from them but wasn't happy with the fact I couldn't find any reviews or pics from customers. And the nearest branch to me looked appalling.

Default Mercasol

I used Ultimate Car Protection about 18 months ago in Bristol on a low mileage MG ZT. They would use Waxoyl or Mercasol, but I spoke to Paul Grundy, the MD, and he recommended the latter. I choose them because they had a part-time unit in Bristol and other garages in Bristol weren't really interested or I had little confidence in them after speaking to them. This is with the exception of a VW specialist in Clevedon, Moores, that quoted double the price but seemed v. thorough in their process.

They use 3 products, the underside Mercosol coating is black and quite thick, and on most exposed parts underneath. I'm sure it will slow corrosion. I've had no problem in 18 months, but that's no surprise. I suspect it may make replacing suspension parts a bit more messy, but I haven't got to that yet. I dropped the car off at Patchway and they did it in a day, and didn't quibble when I asked for the sills to be redone internally as I couldn't see any of the wax product dripping out.

Will it last? I'll let you know in five years time...

I did my Rover 25 myself with Bilt and Hamber products recently as I couldn't justify the same cost on that car.

Paul Grundy told me the lot would want doing again after 5 years when I asked about top ups. I couldn't keep paying that out.

Me neither. My strategy was to get a good rust-proofing job done before corrosion set in. I'll now inspect it at least annually before the MOT and top-up or repair damage as necessary myself. My thinking was that extra coats of rust-proofing on the original paint must be better than nothing.

I'm going to try the same with the krown. If I don't like it I will try something else, but if it seems to work you can buy the stuff in cans so I will top up myself too! I wanted to use the place in Lincs, its called Rustbusters, but on top of the £550 they needed it two days, logistics of getting home and extra costs made it impossible.

Yeah, I saw a separate thread on Krown that you we involved in Dawn. It looked good value - wasn't it under 300GBP for the whole treatment? Let us know how it goes...

Its £252 at the moment. Interestingly Rustbusters offer a similar treatment but when I told them my cars age they said it would probably not suit as corrosion has usually set in too far for it. I've been under on ramps and I think its still good enough. There was some rust to the rear sub and arms but nothing major and I have already cleaned and prepped it myself. If that comes back I wont hold it against the Krown as long as nothing new surfaces. The rest of the underbody is still blue! I do have a new subframe arms and roll bar up the loft so its covered if it goes.
