Hi Alan.
I am quite surprised about the above with David as he is a decent chap, we at the Nano meets have dealt with him for various parts over the last 5 years or more and all have been good quality, the originals were plastic chromed, not brass chromed.

He is usually fast of the mark to changed or refund if any item as a fault, I know he got a box full of these from somewhere.

I Have several original door protectors in front of me over time they start to pit and the chrome gets scratched with rings, key etc and just general grit, the original were plastic, the remakes were brass chromed and as said above already an agreement was made with any members whom purchased them would not gain from selling them on, some decided not to stick to this agreement

few photo below of the ones I have, note the pitting.

Fitted on the car from a distance they look great, up close not to good.

I bought a set from Crofts of the last batch he had done. They are still perfect. Those in your photo’s look terrible Steve. You did say they were the plastic ones?

yes original plastic ones about 15 years old

remember a camera will highlight any and all scratches & faults

I would say the cost is probably about £5 to £10 per set in production, but considerably more per set in tooling up to start production. A manufacturer has to apportion the tooling and other start-up costs over the likely production volume. Then there is the cost of shipping, handling, storage, running a business and finally making a profit in order to make the venture worthwhile.

I suspect by the time true costs are accounted for, your estimate is going to be way off the mark.

What these are worth is what someone is willing to pay - they are clearly worth the seller's asking price to the people who have already purchased them and have left feedback saying that they are happy with their purchase.

To put it in perspective, the £60 asking price is no more (possibly less) than MG Rover and Xpart were asking when they were still available many years ago.

This seller was fortunate in finding (and buying!) a batch of "new old stock" (at an auction I believe), however, before this, folk were happily paying £100 or more for 2nd hand examples

. You're highly unlikely to find another seller selling new OEM door finishers.

I've had 2 sets from him: one set on the car, and another as replacements in case of damage. I also have a set of the "Crofts" finishers should the need ever arise (not for sale I should add). For me, the OEM plastic ones are nicer as they are a slightly better fit and the chrome finish is perhaps a tad brighter, however the Crofts version are well made and are a perfectly acceptable substitute.

Bear in mind that the "Crofts" version were made to special order specifically because at that time, the OEM ones were so hard to come by, at any price

Well that makes more sense.
If they are actually genuine OEM items then why were they not listed as such? Surely would make more sense.

Wonder what Cannonite actually received if they were indeed OEM?

You're right, it would. Certainly, the 2 sets I got from him were OEM.

Yes, that is intriguing. I wonder if he also has some for other car makes and perhaps sent the wrong ones

. Hopefully it was an honest mistake and nothing more, but as I don't know him personally, I really can't say.
