But you haven't.

And the next time you're on a SMART motorway, it could fail again.
And this breakdown could kill you and your family/friends.

Or am I just being obsessive ?
What is a SMART motorway, and what idiot designed it and what other group of idiots commissioned it, when it is at home? Worrying this new technologies!. What are you supposed to do if you breakdown on a SMART motorway?, prey to your god it would appear.

Default Rover CDT Mk1 won't start update thank you Big Russ and MarkS

Well the joint prize goes to Big Russ and MarkS

Sure enough no voltage to the engine sensors

And on checking the engine bay fusebox, fuse 1 had blown

I replaced it with a new 15a fuse and the engine started instantly

So I guess I need to work out whether a fault has blown the fuse or whether it is due to connecting and disconnecting the battery during lay off over winter.

Car is due a service which I will do over weekend now I can warm it up for oil change. And there is the issue of the odometer reading which I hope will sort itself out.

Thank you again Big Russ and MarkS

Thank you to all. Have made an additional donation to club in recognition of the fantastic resource.

Also made a donation to TOAF which has worked very well for me.

Thanks, glad you've got it all sorted.
Unusual for a fuse to blow unless there's been a short somewhere, connecting the battery shouldn't do it

Yes it was that collection of faults combined that pointed to the problem without toaf it would have been a lot harder to sort out.

It won't sort itself out I'm afraid, the 999999 fault occurs when there's a voltage surge, it corrupts the eeprom in the instrument pack.
The only solution is to reprogram the eeprom and then reconfigure it to the car

Usually caused by using jump leads or a booster battery, or badly connecting the battery, it might possibly to have caused your fuse to blow

Congratulations on getting the car started.

TOAF started you down the right path.
BigRuss identified the common fault. Nice one BigRuss.
I helped, identifying the fuse.

But now what ?

1) Carry spare 15A fuses. This fuse protects a lot, and could go again. The white/red wire shorting to the engine block is a likely candidate. Visual inspection is needed.
2) What were the previous cleared error messages ?
3) Does TOAF give any new error messages ?
4) You reported a battery running flat in 72 hours. This could be a symptom of another fault. And subsequently jump starting the car may have caused the 999999 fault. So I think you need to measure the standby current when the car is locked up, establish why the battery is running flat.
5) The 999999 fault probably requires a trip to/from a guru to resolve that. Hopefully one will advise you further.

Good luck.
