Default KV6 Programming

My daughter has a MG ZS180 (2.5 KV6) and her 15 year old now wants to drive it, which is legally possible, there is however one catch - that the vehicle be restricted to a maximum speed of 30 kph.

Bit of background, Sweden during WW2 had a chronic shortage of farm machines and legislation was introduced to allow ordinary cars to be converted to tractors, these tractors could be driven by 15 year olds but the speed had to be restricted to 30 kph - and this legislation still stands. There are a lot of Volvo, BMW, even Porsche, relatively new models being driven around, restricted to 30 kph, by 15 year olds!

Question to those in the know: is there any provision with the Siemens EMU to limit the road speed to 30 kph and if anyone can do it could they please contact me.

Regards

I've never looked but if you hook it up to T4 and look in the dealer configuration menu or the ECU menus, it might be in there so long as the market is set to Sweden

Thanks but somehow I don't believe that MG/Rover ever anticipated such a request, but I'll look as I've got an SRS issue too to sort out. I also have trouble accepting that Minis, BMWs, Volvos etc can be "doctored" via the ECU but not MG/Rover hence the question.

Cars were previously restricted by fitting a second gearbox, now everything is done via the main ECU. Don't think a wooden block would be accepted at the testing station

Think your local testing station is a bit more flexible than mine.

Shouldn't the question be why haven't the Swedish Government brought outdated laws up to date?

I took my driving test here in the UK in a Mini, and at the time I passed I could have gone straight out and bought a double decker bus and driven it loaded with passengers, and as long as they weren't fare paying it would have been perfectly legal.

Thankfully that loophole was closed years ago.

Think even the UK law books are littered with examples of unrepealed laws. Honestly don't think a 15 year old driving at 30 kph is such a danger, they are allowed to drive these micro cars even faster. Micro cars are more dangerous than a standard car that has been crash tested and can take a hit. Our "cousins" across the pond even allow some learners at 14, and a full license at 16!

If you really want to hear something unbelievable ... a 15 year old must qualify to drive on a moped.

Where's Phil-T4 when he's needed? If anyone knows the answer it's him.

Pretty sure the ECU doesn't have any speed restriction settings in the firmware, certainly not found anything like this in the T4 software.
