Scanners.
Hi All, I have bought a new p.c. which is using Vista home. I have a Medion scanner 6190 and a Packard Bell Diamond plus scanner, neither will work with this new p.c. Can I get either to work with Vista?. I have downloaded drivers for both but to no use. Can anyone recommend a new scanner that will work with Vista please?. Thanks.

Dunno about getting the scanner drivers to work with Vista, it (Vista) does seem to have lots of compatability problems...
Pearsonaly I think WinXP pro SP3 is a better programme and have stayed with it. Works nicely for me. .. |

If none of the manufacturers drivers work you may be able to frig it somewhat.
I found that you can get most devices to work but you need to be confident in editing the INF files for the manufacturers drivers. I think Vista has had a hard time due to incompatabilities that the device manufacturers created. Examples below. My graphics card was not supported by Nvidia in Vista. 5 mins editing the .INF files and it was working with a 3d score of 3.9. My bluetooth dongle failed to work. Again edited the .INF files and it's worked perfectly with Vista and windows 7 My scanner, a really old HP one that I had problems with in XP I got workign in Vista again through editing the INF files in the latest installation files from HP. It's hard to explain how to do it on a thread like this but basically you need to find the device codes for your item (through device manager) and edit the INF files in the earliest driver for a very similar device to add the codes. When a computer looks for compatible drivers all it really does is check all the avaliable INF files for a matching device number. If it finds one it installs the driver and links it to that device. If you can find a suitable driver you can convince teh computer that it's the right driver for the device and it may work. However it may now.

Scanners.
Thanks everyone for the help. I will have another go at downloading the Vista drivers. Stephen, I don't know enough about computers to alter INF Files. I have an installation disc for Windows XP, can I take it to a shop and have Vista taken out and replaced?. Thanks.
