I would say that is about right around town but the high speed running looks very low. If I drove our auto at no more than 80 mph on motorways I would expect to get in excess of 40 mpg and manuals are considerably more economical. Tourers seem to use more fuel than saloons. I don't know whether MG's have lower gearing than Rovers.

Mine's dropped a bit recently but averages 46mpg mixed driving really must look at the maf.

Not having a go as, it's a great part of the world, but the roads in Cornwall don't exactly lend themselves to good mpg figures.

I suspect that this may contribute towards your lower mpg figures but may not be the only cause.

Just filled mine up and worked out to just a tad over 36mpg for cdt manual, which is spot on for urban driving.
Most of my journeys are short between 2 and 10 miles hardley giving the engine time to get to temp so I guess I cant complain at these figures.

I think Russ has a good point, with all the hills and twisty roads I doubt anyone in the South West get good mpg.

The same thing can be applied to several counties that have virtually no Motorways. Local terrain makes a huge difference.

I think we might be missing Al's question (unless it's me, in which case I'll get me coat).

The message screen - at least on my Mk 1 CDT - does NOT tell you the instantaneous readout, so if you went from tickover to 60 mph the readout shouldn't change too much, unless you reset it every time you change the speed/throttle setting.

The readout only gives an approximation to (esp if you have a Ron box on a diesel) the average mpg since you last reset the readout. So the longer you leave it between resets, in theory, the more accurate it should become - overall.
