Default A Quandary

Ever since last May the SDA household has been down to one vehicle, a 20 reg. Skoda Scala 1.2 DSG and very good it is too. However to illustrate the effects of coronavirus the Scala's mileage reads just 1300, when it's PCP was set on the expectation that we'd have done 3000 miles or so by now.

With Mrs SDA's choirs not running due to the virus there haven't been any occasions when we both needed a car, but if things return to normal that will likely change,

Mrs SDA suggested that it might be good for me to have a classic car to furkle and polish and generally be a hobby. So that's when I hit on having a 75. But then I thought that having a saloon is a problem as we run a dog too and she travels in a crate. So a Tourer then, but that's a big lump for a hobby car.

Then I thought about getting, say an MG TF to cross sports car off my bucket list, but you can't put a dog crate in a sports car. Then I thought back to my old 1071 Cooper S but classic Mini's aren't the safest things in the world. Though a modern convertible Mini might tick a few boxes.

We live in a barn conversion with a separate block of garages. Our neighbouring garage has an MGB undergoing restoration and the son of one of our neighbours runs a V8 Mustang and is restoring another. So my ideal has to be a 75 Tourer V8 or am I just dreaming?

The v8 version of the 75 Tourer is the rarest by far of the MGR V8's.

Now there's a thought, an MG RV8, no, no way too much £'s and not dog practical either.

Cool

Only 16 V8 Rover Tourers produced. So pretty rare to find one.

Gracious! Is that all they made, perhaps a rethink is called for. Did they make more ZTT V8's or are they just as rare? It may be sacrilege but I love the look of the Rover, the MG not so much.

Depends on the size of the dog and crate I suppose but my cocker spaniel is more than happy whether sat or lying on the back seat of my saloon with a dog seat belt on her harness or fast asleep in her carrier nylon crate carrier thingy.

We used to have two bearded collies but had to let our old boy Jack go in the summer. We're left with Miss Pippin, a 6 year old brown beardie. They travelled in a Ferplast Atlas Maxi crate that has a removable divider. It fits on the folded back seat of the Scala but is too big for the boot and is a devil to get into the car. It's just right for two medium size dogs or one big dog with the divider removed or a whole heap of little 'uns. Ideal for an estate or big SUV.

The Ferplast Atlas range has a number of sizes and the Maxi is the biggest. With just one dog we want to move down to the Atlas 100, which is the same 1m wide but less deep and lower and would fit in the Scala boot.

On one hand you say a 75 is ‘a big lump for a hobby car’ then you opt for the one with the biggest lump of all! To answer your original question, I’d say you’re dreaming.

Dreams sometime come true though.

By big lump I was referring to the size of car, not size of engine. It would be great to turn up with a Mustang engined UK built car, just to see the look on my neighbours son's face.
