Default Steering Wheel Vibration

Hi All,

I've got a problem with my ZT Tourer Diesel, I'm feeling a vibration through the steering column/wheel when "accelerating only" approx. 2000rpm!

There is no vibration felt under any other conditions or at tickover nor any knocking noises.

The Hydramount was changed about 2 years ago when there was cabin vibration (which fixed it)

Hope you can help?

As Trikey says, check the lower engine mount (sump to subframe), I've just changed mine and it's surprising how this limits vibration !

I fitted a Mondeo mount (bit of a test really - it's a tougher design, but more NVH now so wouldn't again), but couldn't believe how this small part affected the smooth running of the car

Thanks for the responses I'll give the lower mount a try and see how it goes?

Use a large screwdriver or lever bar to 'stress' the big bush when you check it, as any cracks are not easily visible when at rest

A lot of them do this – about 1800rpm seems to be the car’s natural resonant frequency, so if something’s going to buzz, that’s where it’ll happen.

I got the engine mounts replaced years ago, but didn’t make any difference (even though the bottom one was definitely knackered) – there were lots of other helpful suggestions here, but none of them worked either. Eventually my exhaust (which was fingered as a possibility) fell to pieces a couple of years ago, so was replaced in its entirety – that didn’t help either.

Funny thing… it seems to come and go a bit. Sometimes I won’t feel it much for many weeks, then it’ll be quite noticeable. It *seems* to happen more in really cold weather
