Default Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror

After months of standing idle during covid and rebuilding the rear suspension I got the car going today. All ok but the rear mirror is faulty. The lower half is dimmed and the upper half not. Is this how they fail or is it a temporary fault, bad connection or what?

Have never seen that myself, wait for temp to rise, check wiring and then see if the cold has somehow affected it. If no luck I’ve a spare one in garage. £20 inc p&p.
