Default 2.0 V6 Temperature Gauge

Histology
Purchased the car this week.
One of the faults is temp gauge not working.

With the help of a gent called Simon I have
Used the diagnosis and ran test.
Test 2. All gauges worked except no blue light on temp gauge.
Test 7 gauge reads -128

Have looked at sender unit but can't see much as it's well tucked away.

As I have stated the blue light does not seem to work.
The neadle on the gauge moves just a fraction.

To get at the sender unit it looks like I have to remove quite a few things

Is there an alternative?

Presumbly, the radiator fan starts up at fast speed when you start the engine?
I'd be surprised if the sensor itself is faulty, but there's clearly no signal getting to the ECU. Have you checked the wiring?

Default Temp gauge

When I used the self diagnostics on the dash board I got.

Test 2. The neadle went right up and down as it should. Red light was on but no blue light.
Test 7. Displays -128

When ignition is turned on the neadle moves just a fraction.

That's where I am at present, you suggest that I check the wiring do you mean from the sender unit to the ECU.

Cheers

Yes, basically check the connector itself by inspection and use a contact cleaner spray on the sensor pins and the connector socket. Locate the sensor connections at the ECU and use an ohm meter to confirm there's no breaks between the socket and the ECU. There are two wires as I recall.

I've no idea why the blue LED fails to show during the IPK test. It may simply have failed, which is possible by somewhat rare I'd say. Perhaps the loss of the LED and the lack of signal are related, in which case I think a T4 session may be needed.
