Default Strut play

Hi gents.
I have posted about this before but not got around to looking at the issue until now.
I have a clonking coming from the nearside front when the wheel when it goes over the brow of a sleeping police man.
I have just given everything a wiggle with the car on its wheels and found play when I grab the spring and push and pull it, it's not a lot but does clonk and appears to come from the top bearing on the strut.
When the car is jacked up I can't detect any play.
All bushes and wheel bearings appear sound.

Suspecting the strut top bearing, any opinions before I pull the strut off for a look?.

Cheers Jon.

Your diagnosis is probably correct.
Worn top bearing make the noise you are describing when the wheel hits a bump.---
