Incidentally, the g lenses are quite basic when it comes to internal components. But the can be rather fiddly to put back together. I have opened some faulty ones (read beyond repair lol) . It could be done, but as I said very fiddly, with the potential to go so wrong that you may be lucky to get pennies for it on ebay.

A few years ago I wouldn't have hesitated, but my fingers aren't as dexterous anymore... not to mention my eyes aren't as sharp either. I'm more and more realising diy is not an option for me.

i sympathise with you John, there are a few of us on the photography section with dodgy hands and bad eyesight for close work, but somehow we managed to get it together mostly

Let us know how you get on with the Lens cleaning service at Jessops,
I think if they do a good job that is well worth noting for future reference

Peter Jones era Jessops, is a different kettle of fish I am happy to say. The discussions from head office, and the upper management (for all there were - a good thing!) was to bring Jessops back to the way it was before the Mr Jessop sold to the management, then the banks. Customer service first, profits would follow. Repairs were just starting to get back off the ground when I left earlier this year. A deposit was still taken, but the mark ups were nowhere near what they used to be. (I did often wonder if they did add anything to the cost of repair to cover courier and time). I still fear the repair costs could be around the £50-70 mark (I hope I am wrong!). I can say that when the Nikon equipment went for repair, regardless of age, it would be sent to Nikon directly, who then seemingly shipped it on to Johnson's Photopia. A customer did contact Johnson's for a quote, for a repair to a camera, and was quoted higher than the Nikon quote he got from us! I would have confidence in going through Jessops, for a repair, but as I said, for the 35mm, it may be worth considering a replacement. Good luck, and I hope you get sorted. well, that's just put a downer on my mood, I guess I'll just have to wait until I speak to them tomorrow, my closest shop is in Birmingham, not too far away, and as I have a travel card it won't cost me a penny to get there. so a small bonus.... I think.
I hope the rep' wasn't wrong in her pricing...
