Default Nothings ever simple!

Getting fed up of simple jobs taking longer or needing extra parts now.
I've had an issue with my ABS for a while and finally got around to attempting to fit a new sensor today. After the faff last time on the other side, I thought I'd be prepared this time, so ordered an ABS sensor, wheel bearing, brake back plate, new brake shoe fittings, and a new bolt for the sensor.

A few things went better, at least the wheels weren't stuck on this time, and the bearing hadn't welded itself to the axle, pulled off quite nicely. But that's as far as it went.

The washer that sits between the bearing and the nut, has snapped off the little tooth, the old sensor had to be drilled out, and the bolts holding the back plate on, 1 came out, the other 3 are solid and I've bent or snapped 4 allen keys trying to undo them. Picture of knackered washer attached:

So the car is now left on axle stands, I'll have to try and borrow my wifes hateful quashqai tomorrow morning and get over to simmers to get a new washer and some bolts, and hope I can manage to loosen the others somehow. I dread to think how hard it's going to be to get the handbrake cable out of the backplate.

To top it off, the bearing on the other side also needs replacing, again, I suspect the axle was damaged when removing the stuck on bearing, so now looking at a replacement trailing arm.

You do have my sympathy, I suppose the older our cars get, these complications will increase.

Get a decent impact Allen key with a 1/4 drive socket, that will loosen the cap screws holding the backplate on.

Don’t stress about having to drill the old sensor out, that is usually how it goes.

With regards to the handbrake cable removal from the backplate, it will be stuck! Get a Dremel and slice the ferrule on the backplate in a couple of places and peel it back, the cable then comes out easily.

If you undo the cable where they split by the fuel tank, this gives you a bit more play on the cable too.

Certainly seem to be. The attempt to change the strut top bearing last week was thwarted when the nut on the top refused to loosen at all, despite best efforts.

Thanks, but a kind member has offered to pop over this weekend and lend a hand (and an impact driver), so will hopefully be done tomorrow. I can't even get the bike out to go out and get anything, damn car is stuck in front of the garage, far enough away to open the door, but not enough room to manoeuvre the bike out!

Not sure where the Dremel is, so might have to be an angle grinder for the handbrake cable, got a feeling that's what I had to do on the other side a few years ago. I'll try and remember to undo it by the tank, hopefully make it a little easier, thanks.
