Default Steering Wheel Nut Solid

Would it be advisable to use something like Plusgas to loosen the nut off.

I wouldn't recommend the use of plusgas, instead use a 4" extension bar with your 16mm socket, and a sliding tee bar.

turn the steering to full left lock, then using the bar in it's central position, apply the slackening force evenly and have an assistant tap the centre of the extension with a large hammer.

The combined impact/slackening should shock the thread sufficiently to allow it to start moving.

To prevent the transmitted shock from jarring your wrists and hands, it's advisable to wear a pair of stout gloves

Found the handle of an old metal rake invaluable for the exercise to recently remove said article and replace my clock spring.

DON'T forget to disconnect battery for 30 mins before!!!

They certainly seemed to really put them on really tight, on the production line.
I used a big torque wrench to get mine off. The torque is meant to be 65 Nm and it was clicking at more than twice that, without budging!

I have read on here that people have used the wheel brace as it is the same size.

Make sure that you are pulling down on the left, rather than pushing up on the right, as when it does let go, you don't want to smash the windscreen.

The wheel brace is 17mm, and the bolt 16mm A/F

when undoing or doing up I would not use the steering lock to hold the steering wheel in place. make sure you have the front wheels straight and have someone else hold the steering wheel. I put an extension tube over the handle of my socket and the bolt came undone.
