No good ones left for sale
Well went all the way over to stafford today to look at a 75 contemporary se tourer in a MG garage. Advertised price £2995 and only 62000 miles, im sorry but what are these people on. Passenger side repaired by stevie wonder filler and dents with not much shine, lacquer peeling off from rear qaurter and rust all along bottom of the 2 doors! Premium front bumper fitted and held on with cable ties all along the bottom edge, headlights on all the time, brake discs all need replacing, poorly painted dash in sort of gloss black also peeling off around gear selector, double din unit which wouldnt work and all original Hi-line wireing removed! £2995 really? I think in gonna give up the search for a decent example and just build one myself, with what im wasting in time and fuel its pointless on the plus side they have painted the wheels and put a set of cheap new tyres on it.

There are a few nice examples still to be had, just be patient, one will turn up, try the private ads far better than garages.

Finding a 'nice example' generally means that a previous owner has spared no expense in looking after the car. With prices so low due the cars age, they will be few and far between IMHO.

I do agree but for £5 short of £3000 it should be mint! Maybe one will turn up but i doubt it

I don't think you'll ever find one that is truly mint - they're an old car now. I would be looking for a car that is as mechanically good as possible and then you can get it up to scratch cosmetically. For a thousand pounds you should find a really good example, then spend the rest of your budget getting this bits you want sorted.

Hi.
Yes I agree. My old car needs over £400 of work, at one time id have done the lot myself. I've alredy been bitten with an auto that I lost over £500 on, then the ideal car came up Andy's tourer, guess what I was put on short time after id struck a deal and put a deposit on it, all my rotten luck. Since then I've looked at two cars, both with no history and way over priced. Tomorrow I am looking at two others that are non MGR so I'll either go for one of those or get cossie dunc to fix the old girl.

That's fair enough. It shouldn't have been in the state you describe for that money. Had similar when we visited an MG garage to view a 190 ZT-T in celestial blue. A few bodged repairs that you would expect not to see considering the price tag. I'm currently working on a project 190 ZT-T, which will hopefully be very much sorted soon, but it's been heavy on the wallet. |
