Default Dead Ecu - options

Morning All,
I after a bit of advice. My sons 2002 cdt has had a mouse attack and its eaten a part of the wiring loom that’s in the bulk head leading to the ECU. I have repaired the damage but the ECU does not start and the fuel pumps don’t run. If I plug in a spare ECU from our spares car. The pumps run and appears to want to start. I assume its damage some of the Mosfets in the ECU that switch on the pumps. Difficult to say, I really need some circuit diagrams to fault find.
So if I swap out the ECU and EWS combo plug the ID11 chips. Can I recode the ECU and EWS with a new VIN (and ZCS type settings) as the doner is the same year but a tourer - I have Toaf.
I can read the original EWS unit using a PROM reader, but not the ECU, if that’s any help. What’s the art of possible on this.

Sorry for the ramble

Mark

Yorkshire GOC's advice is probably the best alternative, as I don't believe it's possible to re-write the main ECU even with Toaf, but from your description there's one vital component missing - the matching transponder chip from the Tourer (or is that the ID11 chip you describe?).

If you use the matching ECU (EMU) + EWS + transponder chip the car should run, and while from a purist's point of view not ideal I had an ECU kit in my other car for about 6 years until I retired it.

Regards

Yes the transponder chip is the Philips PCF7935 chip they seem to be referred to ID and some number. ID34 seems to be mentioned for some BMW’s. I have three transponder chips with a matched EWS and ECU. I’m guessing the IKE and LCM will freak out due to the mismatched VIN.

Never had any problems with either the IKE or LCM due to the mismatch, and a BCU from a Tourer although I later changed some setting when Toaf came out. A while later I even fitted a matching LSM + IKE from the Tourer to get the digital speedometer.

But if I'd been in the UK I might have had it all done properly, your car = your choice.

Strange however that the car won't run with the ECU kit, something else must be going on

Good luck
