I did it from the top last weekend.

Just quick Wordy expanation without pics , but there are threads on here with pics

Undertray off ..

jack under motor

Power steering pot unbolted and push out of the way

Helps to unbolt dip stick tube top and swing out of the way.

Unplug the cable ( wire clip)

Take motor weight on jack and remove all the top motor mount.

Spanner on the tensioner to relieve the belt tension.

you may be able to hold the belt tight with a bungy cord to save having to re route it , but thats not hard to do .

You can now jack motor up and down quite a way to get at the bolts

I took off the OS wheel and pulled the liner back to get at the front 2 .
the lower rear bolt is accessed via a hole in the casting with a socket.

Wiggle the alternator out through the top .

Do it all backwards to replace .

think I haven't missed anything .

Thank you. The belt on mine snapped due to the alternator seizing up. So I’ve got to try and fit a new belt.

As long you have the right spanner you can take off the tension and tie back the spanner, I used a piece of coat hanger wire.

Careful though the tensioner is a strong little beast if it slips.

But tying it back means you can do it all single handed .

I used a plastic cable tie on mine to hold back the spanner. Very easy to cut when re-tensioning.

Finally got round to doing it and that was not a job I want to do any time soon. Changed the AC belt whist I was there too as it was cracking badly. One note summer parasols act as good rain umbrellas.
