Very nice shots there Colin. I live about 3 miles as the crow flies from the airfield and the Red Arrows flew really low over my house a couple of times. I didn't take any photos though as I was waxing my 75 in anticipation of tomorrow's meet at the Frog & Wicket. Then it rained!

Some from Sunday......Virgin Atlantic sent "Birthday Girl" along with an escort. Shame about the cloud at the time.

Cracking photographs Colin, Particularly the 747!! We have just returned from Biggin Hill, and quite frankly, a little bit of a deflating experience this year. The Virgin 747 and the Red Arrows being probably the highlight. They can really throw those things around. Thank you Mr Branson and the Red Arrows!!
On the downside, a long list of unserviceable aircraft down to display which withdrew due to technical issues or other no shows. No Vulcan, Lancaster, B17 Flying Fortress, one of the Folland Gnats (the other flew), Nimrod, French AF (Dauphine?), Belgian AF F16. The Vulcan no showing was a big blow and many people had come for that as the star attraction, and started to leave when they announced it wasn't to be there. To be fair, you cannot risk these things and i think they left it to the last minute before admitting defeat. I wonder what went wrong as it showed ok yesterday. |

It is a shame when advertised planes don't fly but many of these appear "on a wing and a prayer". I heard the Lancaster leave the show on my scanner and thought there must be trouble with it. The Sally B (B17) was cancelled on monday last week after a crankshaft bearing failed. I don't know what happened to the Vulcan but hopefully it isn't too drastic. It wouldn't take much to ground these aircraft for good.
Looking forward now to Farnborough next year, will definitely be going in to that one. |

The BBMF Lancaster had an intermittent problem with No 2 engine (exactly what, the announcers didn't say) and they were working on it this morning. Periodically, they ran the engines up, but eventually, announced it was U/S.
The Vulcan, I have no idea as yet. There is nothing on their website as yet, but they announced the Vulcan would not be appearing at around 15:00 and stated they had been working on it all morning, so eventually I suppose they ran out of time to sort the problem and fly down from Brize. |

Now thats a sight. I work as a security Guard for Shorts Bombardier in Belfast and we get some visits of jets and such in sometimes, but that 747 and red arrows is frankly awesome. Have you got a ri res version, I would love that for my desktop, as I currently have this...

Colin,
As said above, I am very impressed with your shots of the aircraft from Biggin Hill. Can I ask what you took the photographs with out of interest? Regards Alasdair |

I was at the show on the Saturday. The Vulcan was amazing but I have to say the Eurofighter was MUCH louder and some of the things it did was completely awesome.
I'm still going over 100's of pictures.
