Default Windows 11

Looks like the upcoming Windows 11 will be more hassle for older PC's My last three desktops never updated properly to their cumulative updates failing multiple times to the point where I binned Win 10 off them all.

If your CPU is older than 3 years, Windows 11 will not work. So I understand.

not sure it is worth updating unless you are a geek.
Problem being is backwards compatibility, what were expensive programs when new now wont always work with "new" versions of windows.
Software, so many "old" versions of things such as Word and Excel across the world we can generally still send files between us but when new versions of those and similar programs come out and people spend money on them, not always because they need the new features, then there may again be backwards compatibility.

I did a project in Excel years ago. Had to convert it to an old version, do what I wanted and then convert back to the new version all because the new version did not have the facility the old version had.

I wonder how many of us actually need more than was available in, say, XP or Win 7?

I accept the vulnerability to hacking etc. but otherwise?

I'd get back to Vista if it wasn't for just those things you mention, security updates. Windows has since been in a free fall

Only good thing I want from windows 11 is that you can run android apps natively on it.

Switched to Mac and Linux after the Vista debacle, never looked back. Windows 7 was good though.

That's what happened to my older desktop PC's that I used for DAW music recording, all above board expensive software.
How long would it before security issues become a problem if you didn't upgrade to the new Win 11.

Is that not the job of the firewall and anti virus software? I guess as more people move to win11 they will stop updating protection for users of earlier software and so they will become vulnerable.

If no one buys win11 that would solve the problem but it wont happen

I suggest to move over to an open-source OS, for example Linux Ubuntu or other variant, never look back..... Windows.. what???
Try it now, it will change your life.
