steam clean. ...
Is it wise to have the engine bay steam cleaned. .....or will it effect the engine at all.

An engine doesn't need to be spotlessly clean. And in my opinion if it's running well it's better left alone innit.

Not just you - there are quite a few of us on here who like to keep their engine bays clean. I must admit, I personally wouldn't use a steam cleaner though - you can do a thorough job with some elbow grease and just a few products with far less risk. I used some quick detailer and a few old rags to get most of the dirt off, then some wire wool and Brasso to tackle the metal parts (air con pipes; alternator; engine mounts etc). Car wax for the paintwork, and some vinyl dressing for the plastic bits and it looks a treat.
Very satisfying work - but does lead to the odd scrapped knuckle or 2! Cliff
