Default Just got a new car!

Hi all,

Well after looking for a Freelander V6 for the wife, i picked up her new car at the weekend, a late 2002 Jaguar s-type 3.0 s.e Auto, with leather, touch screen sat nav/phone/tv with voice command, its done 190k with full jaguar service history. Drive it 2hrs to home and drives spot on but the bloke don't tell me it had a small hole in the radiator, ebay for you!

Still it needs a new radiator, small repair to rear bumper, but it was very cheap for a car which cost £33,000 then new.

And im going to fit lpg to her.

Nice. I had an S-Type back in the early 2000s - had a 4.2L supercharged V8 - beautiful car, went like a rocket and interior was fab.

However, drank petrol like nobody's business and cost a fortune to insure (mind you, I was only 23 at the time). After the dot com bubble burst I downsized to a Peugeot 106, then got the V6 75.

Sounds lovely, there's an 04 plate s type for sale near me but he wants £3700 and I think it's one of the larger engined ones too. They're similar to the 75/ZT in so many ways.

No. 16 of only 52 Nocturne Blue 75/ZT ever produced. ONLY TEN of these were ZT 190+

I paid less that half that!

Yes, very similar to the 75/ZT bodyshell.

Well, the Jag is very nice, and it shows exactly where the Rover goes wrong with the lack of torque.
That Jaguar engine is just one sweet engine that simply can't be made much better.

Now there's a thought.......

I've been looking at Diesel S-Types (and pab had a look at one for me ) and wondered about whether converting a petrol to LPG would be an option....

How much does the LPG conversion cost Simon (if you don't mind me asking)?

Cheers,

Derek

I had a 53 S type 2.5 manual, which felt a little underpowered, but still went briskly; brother in law had 3.0 auto which was much better engine.
The 'R' supercharged 4.2 which a friend had - something else; a real rocket.
Never been in a diesel one but have heard the 2.7 twin turbo wasn't quite up to the job (especially in first XF).

Well it will around the £1500 mark, for me about £550 if i buy a new system, less if 2nd hand as i fitting it myself.
To run, well then i drive home (all A roads) it was doing 32mpg and as my ZT will at best do 28mpg on petrol and 23mpg on gas, the jag will about the same my ZT but on runs will be better as at 70mph in 6th the revs are very low.
